wabbit by Rachel DelaGardelle in Kansas City, Missouri.
You might be thinking that this is an odd choice to be included in The Watercolor Gallery. But the reason I’ve chosen DelaGardelle’s wabbit is because of her use of the pen. Many, many monder watercolorists are using the pen and I think it has its place for making some really vivid pieces.
Without the use of pen on this piece the, forgive me, wabbit wouldn’t stand out – the shadowing would have soft edges, and the face wouldn’t be as prominent as it is.
I have come across a few artists that have overused the pen, or tried to rescue paintings by using it (OK, that’s me) – but I think DelaGardelle uses it aright.
