Messing Around by Thomas Dorsz.
I’m not sure where Dorsz currently resides. Scrolling through his Flickr photostream he has paintings from all over the world. And they’re all great.
This particular piece is fantastic on so many fronts. But there are a few things that I like most about it – the way the boat on the left has caught the sunlight but the boat on the right hasn’t, the way Dorsz subdued the characters on the sail both forwards and backwards to show the lettering that is on the other side, the way both boats subtly reflect off of the water’s surface.
The title of this piece is Messing Around but clearly Dorsz wasn’t when he put this painting together. I hope, where ever he is right now, that he’s painting.
