Dylan, Watercolor, Pen & Ink by Sarah Chiarot in Los Angeles, California.
One of Chiarot’s favorite subjects is Bob Dylan. She’s drawn him on numerous occasions and, I think, really captures Dylan well in many of them.
In this particular portrait she reminds me that all we really need is to lead the viewer to imagine the details. We don’t need to spell everything out every time. We don’t need to show the guitar, we already know it is there. We don’t need to show every face wrinkle, we can imagine them. We only need to know what our subject is – the rest our brain will do. Excellent reminders.
