Autumn Still Life by Marmaduke Matthews in Ontario, Canada.
I don’t know what draws me to this painting. The fruit looks very, very real. I love both grapes and pears, so maybe that is it. Or, maybe it is the fact that this work was completed by Matthews in the year 1888.
I also like the combination of abstract and realism. Sometimes I put far too much effort into getting all of the details just right rather than focusing on just some. I need to focus more on the important details to get right instead of worrying about getting them all right and this piece by Matthews is a perfect reminder of that.
Art lives on forever.
