Cozy nest by Afsaneh in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The only area of this work where you can really tell this is a watercolor is the top-left of the background. The rest of the painting is so tight and precise that it almost feels cartoonish.
Which, presumably, is exactly what Afsaneh was going for here since she ended up turning this work into a cute little calendar for the month of April.
There are a few things that really stand out to me in this painting. The nest was obviously a bit of work but I like how she didn’t take a lot of time trying to explain how the branch flows out of it. It just does. The bird’s shadow on the nest is just great. The leaf on the far right-top, the one with the little notch in it, is by far my favorite leaf.
What I also found interesting was that the bird wasn’t bringing food to the nest but pretty little things it found instead. A flower, a few red berries, and some sort of feather. Neat idea.
