As I was looking through a few of Collins’ works I just kept coming back to this one. The painting is weighted perfectly. When you learn some of the basics of photography there is a rule called the rule of thirds. This painting clearly follows that rule – whether it was intentional or not – and that is what makes this feel so well weighted.

The other thing I like about this is that Collins didn’t do too much. Something, as most of you already know, I struggle with. The sky is only on one area. The water is what, a few strokes? I need to learn this!

Collins also has a great blog and he’s on the Twitter.
