A Mad Tea Party by Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald.
Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald was a popular author of the 1920s who married the famous author F. Scott Fitzgerald. She began painting right around the same time as her first book This Side of Paradise was published (talk about a busy artist) and painted up until her death.
Her style of painting is very, very interesting to me. Each muscle is shown but also exaggerated. The subjects are fancy-free and obviously fantastical. The castles in the background try to tell the entire story of Alice in Wonderland in one painting.
I really wish I could see this painting up-close and personal. And, if I traveled to Montgomery, Alabama between October 28, 2010 and January 9, 2011 I’d be able to. Fitzgerald’s work will be on display there at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts in Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park.
